Preparation day yesterday for the Downhill Competition on National level in Champoluc - Frachey. The track is challenging and fast. The lift-train brings bikes and occasional visitors up to Mandria. Many of the 250 partecipants were already training hard. One fell in the woods and was rescued by the Aosta Valley Rescue Team by helicopter. See the video.
Bike on the Italian side of Monterosa is already popular in Cervinia, where you can bring your bike with the highest cable car to 3600 m and slide down to the town at 2000 m. Since last summer it is also possible to have bike fun in the valleys of Champoluc and Gressoney, where they have opened a few downhill tracks (see next news about Italian Championship). See the map for this beautiful ski marathon on the glaciers of Monte Rosa.
The organization of the classic race has decided to ostpone the start because of the very bad weather forecasts for this week-end. At the moment it is not yet decided when it will be possible to start. Hopefully the participants have to wait only for a couple of days. News on www.trofeomezzalama.org
See Carlos blog with very intersting pictures and information during his top tours and trekkings in the Spanish mountains and on Monte Rosa's Dufour Spitze 4643 meters peak.
With its very extended mountain sides in all four directions, with hundreds of peaks in the same mountain chain, with a skiable height level of 4500 meters, Monterosa is indeed one of the absolutely best places in the entire Alps for freeride, heliski and ski-mountaineering.
Discover the hundreds of descents of Monterosa together with our experienced local authorized mountain guides, from easier runs near the lift system to secluded places you can reach only by climbing with your skins or by helicopter.
Fly to the spectacular glaciers or to virgin and unexplored wintervalleys to see animals and sleeping villages from past times.
Listen to our local fairy talers, they can tell you about each stone in their valley.
If you are new to offpist or experienced we have a tour for you!
We practice heliski with a lot of respect for nature, history and people. the helicopter is used as a mean to reach the high passes of the mountains and not used when the lift system is enough for the tour. The special environment of the glaciers is such that the heliski is not always possible. If not, our guides will anyway do their best to make you experience the freeride of Monterosa.
