The organization of the classic race has decided to ostpone the start because of the very bad weather forecasts for this week-end. Il Castore è una montagna del massiccio del Rosa, nelle Alpi Pennine. È posto sul confine tra la Valle d'Aosta ed il Vallese. Si trova lungo lo spartiacque che dal Breithorn conduce verso la Punta Dufour.
Per la sua conformazione prende il nome, assieme al monte Polluce, dai due gemelli della mitologia greca Castore e Polluce. È separato dal Polluce dal passo di Verra (3845 m.).
Fu raggiunto per la prima volta il 23 agosto del 1861, per opera della guida alpina Michel Croz con F.W. Jacomb e con W. Mathews.
